The project involves the reconstruction of the 48km Ngong-Kiserian– Isinya (D523) road and the upgrade to bitumen standard of 43km Kajiado–Imaroro (D524) road under the Roads 10,000 programme.

The project is being undertaken under a Finance, Design, Build, Maintain and Transfer (FDBMT) arrangement, with LEA Associates South Asia Pvt. Ltd in association with ITEC Engineering offering the services of an Independent Expert (Engineer) for the construction supervision of the project.

Project aimed at determining whether it would be feasible to expand the Mombasa – Nairobi Highway to a dual carriageway or more from the current single carriageway. The feasibility study was also seeking to examine the type of financing and procurement options (such as PPP) that would be best suited to the selected technical option. In addition, various tolling options were to be explored and their impact on traffic volumes considered in the study.

Sub-consulted to undertake the economic feasibility study for alignment selection process and for the viability of the proposed tolling options using HDM-4. Also, tasked with undertaking pavement evaluation and design.

The road is about 140km long and forms part the proposed rehabilitation of the 600km Kitale – Lodwar – Nadapal road that is supposed to connect Tanzania and Kenya to South Sudan. It will also link up with the proposed LAPSSET corridor.

Carried out independent traffic data collection that was used to review geometric configurations and the pavement design loading analysis that had been proposed in an earlier design. The new recommendations were then used to update the engineer’s cost estimate and an independent economic analysis undertaken using the HDM-4 software.
