Objectives of the Project | To critically review the design of the project with special emphasis on the major structures and the interface with proposed Bus Rapid Transit System Infrastructure expected to follow immediately along the same alignment in accordance with current and best engineering practices. To ensure that the road is constructed in accordance with the general and particular conditions of the contract, the technical Specifications and Engineering Drawings or any other amendments thereto. To optimize the use of available material resources to minimize costs to the employer or maximize the quality of the works. To ensure environmental and social safeguards including any resettlement are carried out fully in accordance with GoK / AfDB requirements. To ensure that the road is constructed within the contract price and time for completion allow under the contract or any agreed amendments thereto |
Description of the Services | Review Engineering drawings, technical specifications, design calculations, pertinent reports prepared at design, design review stage, and prepare any amendments deemed necessary to verify the soundness and the sufficiency of the detailed design, contract documents and accuracy of the bill of quantities. Critically review designs of the interchanges to the extent of recommending alternative design options if necessary. Review Proposed alignment designs particularly the road section form Ngong River running to Taj Mall area at the intersection with the eastern by pass and document justification. Organize and coordinate Environmental Awareness Workshop in collaboration with KURA during the Mobilization phase conducted along major towns along the project road. Review the road safety audits and the resulting measures if any. Review and familiarize with the KURA’s Resettlement Action Plan of the contract as well as other government policies and identify Project Affected persons & Properties categorizing impacts. Make a survey of existing utility services and liaise closely with authorities concerned on the proposed relocation of such services. Liaise with KURA and the county administration to ensure that assessment of compensation in respect of crops and buildings within the right of way is done Identify all the survey ground control stations which have been established, verify the accuracy of the survey stations. Prepare design changes as required and/or to suit field conditions including improvement of alignments at the bridge sites and prepare Engineers Instructions (EI) and Variation Orders (VO). Routinely advise the employer of the estimated cost in the different contract currencies to completion of works. Approve the contractors setting out of the works and preparation for the works prior to issuing approval to construct the works. Carry out jointly with the contractors’ soil and materials investigation as necessary. Formally arrange for Joint inspections together with the contractor and employer. Inspect the works both under construction and completed xv) Submit Progress reports and as built drawings. |
